What’s happening: President Trump’s 25% tariffs on Chinese goods are squeezing global economies, including Japan’s. But Yoko Ishii, a Tokyo-based YouTuber and self-branded MAGA supporter, told Fox Business the pain is worth it to counter China’s trade bullying.

"As someone living in Japan, I naturally worry about the short-term impact [of tariffs] on our economy, especially given that we've already endured decades of stagnation, tax hikes and global instability… But, in the long run, I believe a strong America is in Japan's national interest," she said.
"If Japan and the U.S. can build and maintain a strong, fair and healthy economic relationship this time, it will serve as a powerful counterbalance to Beijing's hegemonic ambitions," she continued. "I hope this moment becomes an opportunity not only to review the foundations of our relationship, but also to foster more active and open communication between our countries."
The catch: U.S. consumers could see 5-10% price hikes on electronics and clothing. Japan’s supply chain costs are climbing, and global trade tensions are spiking.
What’s next: Trump’s team is negotiating with over 70 countries to lower tariffs on U.S. goods. Ishii sees Japan’s role as a U.S. ally as leverage to dodge tariffs, but success hinges on talks.
Bottom line: Ishii views Trump’s China strategy as a bold necessity, even if it stings. “China’s not invincible,” she said. “Trump’s showing the world how to fight back.”
