This article struck a nerve with me because I came to America from communist Vietnam with my mother and older brother. We had very little, but we never believed the government owed us a life.
We ate instant noodles, eggs, and sardines. My mother worked, sacrificed, and eventually built her own restaurants. That was not oppression. That was the American Dream taking shape through responsibility, opportunity, and determination.
Capitalism is not perfect because people are not perfect. But it allows people to create, own, build, fail, recover, and try again. Socialism promises equality by transferring more power to the state, but history repeatedly shows that the people rarely receive equal power. They receive equal dependence.
I believe in helping people who genuinely need help. I also believe that compassion without accountability can become dependency, and convincing people that they are powerless is one of the cruelest things anyone can do to them.
The most troubling part of this article is not disagreement over policy. It is a philosophy that appears to require enemies. Business owners, police officers, immigration agents, successful people, and anyone who questions the movement are treated as oppressors.
You cannot build a better society on resentment. Jealousy does not create prosperity. Anger does not produce opportunity. Destroying what someone else built will never teach you how to build something of your own.
America gave my family the freedom to work toward a better life. I will never apologize for believing that freedom, personal responsibility, and capitalism remain worth defending.
Socialism IS NOT COMPATIBLE with America. People enjoy doing for themselves and appreciate it more than if it just handled to them. Socialism would take away from the
people who have worked hard to what they have to give to them to did NOT work hard.

I'm a member of DSA and what you wrote didn't match up to my experiences at all. It's not required that you cosplay when you go to a DSA meeting. Mostly what I see are people who love humanity, and who really go out of their way to help the homeless sick disabled, people doing the actual work in the trenches with food banks, Etc.
I believe you have the best intentions. I also guess that you are younger than 40 years old. I only say that because of what I’ve seen young people being taught in this country. I am 70 years old, and started taking online college courses 4 years ago. I stopped after two trimesters with a 3.8 gpa because I refused to pay to be indoctrinated.

As far as a successful socialist nation that is not in some way dependent on others for their security, here's how I answer. Can you give me one example of a successful socialist nation that has not in some way been targeted, infiltrated by the CIA and bombed by the USA in order to stop socialism?
I will be 67 in November, so the false characterization that DSA is only for the younger crowd is not true about me. Young people are quite savvy with knowledge in a way that our generation was not always given. I am exceptionally well educated and am an attorney with years of courtroom experience and life experience. Before I became an attorney I worked in a steel mill doing hard blue collar labor. I was the only woman in the jobs outside of the air conditioned offices. I have traveled to multiple countries. I have met and learned from all sorts of people. I have even met heads of state. I am no dummy. There are plenty of crazy comments in the propagandized US media about DSA. That tells me that the super rich corporate class who owns the media is controlling the narrative of the propaganda.
