They will do nothing. And even if they did, it will not provide the help people need. As a care giver to a spouse with Alzheimer's, I am physically, emotionally and financially strained. Medicare plans cover only doctor appointments. But what about the $7000 a month that's needed when you can no longer care for the patient in your home? What about the $14,000 a month when they need a nursing home? Alzheimer's groups offer advice, and maybe point you toward the people you can hire, but that's about it. NO HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY COVERS ALZHEIMER'S CARE! So the care giving spouse is forced to spend all their savings on the Alzheimer's patient and then pray to God that there's enough left over for their own care, when needed. I am beyond disgusted with what little support is offered. Millions of families are struggling with this and all it is to the political parties is a few empty promises in the hopes of gaining a few more votes.

A national acknowledgment of the magnitude of the challenges associated with Alzheimer’s on so many levels—personal, financial,medical etc— along with tangible commitments to address these challenges would be welcomed by so many who must deal with this disease and often feel left alone to just do the best they can. A comprehensive initiative could give families some breathing room and a greater sense that we are all in this together to find a cure. Sounds like a winner to me.
