Since when did cradle to grave care become the responsibility of taxpayers? For generations, families have been responsible for raising children and caring for aging parents. NOW, we have public schools providing 2 or 3 free meals to school kids - in many jurisdictions even in summer months. Now, people want to pawn off the care of their aging parents onto the government?
The United States is affluent. However, that affluence isn't boundless. We need to allow families that earn money to keep enough of what they earn such that the sons & daughters of working & middle class families can live independently, raise their own families, and enjoy a decent quality of life. That won't happen if we continue to expand and inflate the social safety net to include vastly expensive new services ... services like elder care for all.
