The devil is in the details. Where can I read about it? There is nothing magical about funding patients; that’s how we finance college. Students get grants and loans, which depend on what the institutions charge. That incentives those institutions to raise prices.
To put us into a sensible free market path that also accounts for rare events, we need mandatory private insurance for catastrophic care, and free markets for most kinds of other care. If employers choose to pay for insurance, that needs to be taxable, so it is clear to employees that it isn’t free. Some at least would presumably prefer the money.
That should force hospitals and doctors to pay attention to costs.
My husband is struggling with Alzheimer's disease, and is participating in the trial of a new drug. It's showing some benefit, but will not stop his continued physical deterioration. When he needs 24-hour care, and I'm incapable of providing all the support he requires, we'll be paying around $7,000 per month for Memory Care. This is not covered by insurance. When he requires nursing care, we're looking at over $14,000 per month. Again, this is not covered by insurance. This expense will be aggressively depleting our savings -- while I still need to maintain a home for myself and have enough money in case I succumb to illness. Alzheimer's is going to become a health care crises as the boomers age. And it will become an economic crises for their families. There will be no inheritances when the cost of Alzheimer's care is beyond most people's resources. I expect to die poor even though I've saved all my adult life for retirement.
Well China can’t build bridges, or buildings that stand the test of time, or vehicles, have clean air, or feed their people clean food. They have a horrible homeless problem that used to be elderly but now all ages. I would not trust anything they claim to have knowledge on. There is one thing they are excellent at though… government propaganda. We seem to be following in their footsteps quite well in that area I’d say. Watch the China guys on YT … eye-opening!
